The lake of glacial origin is fed by underground springs and is almost devoid of immissaries: it has an area of 135 hectares and a maximum depth of about 8 meters.
In the hilly area there are interesting fossiliferous outcrops of marine origin interspersed with striped pebbles which testify to the existence of the glacial-marine environment of about 2 million years ago.
The vegetation is characterized by the numerous species typical of the wetlands such as water chestnut, ceratophyll, blueberry, frog bite and utricularia. The fauna is represented by over 200 species of birds that choose this area for wintering and nesting (bittern, bittern, tufted duck, pochard, gray heron, greater white red, shoveler, green reed, marshland marsh).
