Origin, diffusion and economic characteristics

Bantam breed (dwarf) created in the early 19th century by Sir John Sebright, a member of the English Parliament, with a long work of crossbreeding between various breeds (Sabelpoot, Padovana, Hamburg, Java, etc.).
Very beautiful and particularly appreciated breed.

Morphological characteristics

There are two typical varieties: silver white with black-edged feathers and red with black edging.
The crest is composed of a rose which at the front almost covers the base of the beak and at the rear extends into a short appendage, found on the nape of the neck.
Short and slightly curved beak.
Wide and low wings. Wide and raised tail, sickles are missing in the rooster.

II - TYPE AND ADDRESSES FOR THE SELECTION

Authentic dwarf chicken with medium-high habit and lively temperament. It has a prominent chest, an open tail and drooping wings. Peculiarities of the breed are the shapes and design of the plumage of the rooster which must be like that of the hen. Maintaining the typology, improving fertility.

III - STANDARD

General appearance and characteristics of the breed
1- FORM
Trunk: broad and stocky, tubular in shape.
Head: small and short
Beak: short and strong, dark horn color.
Eyes: large and expressive; dark red to brownish black.
Crest: pink, with fine pearls, medium size, dark red; wide in front, it gradually tapers towards the nape ending with a straight and conical spine.
Bargigli: small, well rounded, dark red. In the barely visible hen.
Face: smooth, from purple red to blue red, without hair.
Mumps: medium size, oval, smooth and red.
Neck: short, arched, with rounded cape feathers, absolute absence of lanceolate.
Broad shoulders.
Back: wide, short, rounded, carried almost horizontal. Absolute absence of lanceolate from the croup.
Wings: open and low flow, without touching the ground.
Tail: open (fan-shaped), without sickles, with wide and scaled helmsman. In young people it is tolerated that your tallest helmsmen are a little longer and outnumber the others. Reach high enough, but without forming corners with the line of the back.
Chest: wide, full, prominent and well rounded, carried high.
Legs: short, well-feathered legs, partially hidden by the wings. Smooth, fine tarsi, without slate gray feathers; four fingers.
Belly: moderately developed.
White skin.
2 - WEIGHTS

Serious defects:
Back too long; very tall tail habit; closed tail; flat chest; high wings; presence of lanceolate and sickle-shaped in the cock (even if only hinted at).
3 - PLUMAGE
Conformation: Structure of the broad pen, almond-shaped. Short and well fitting body feathers, wide and well rounded helmsman. The rooster does not have the secondary sexual characteristics: lanceolate of the cape, of the rump and sickle-shaped of the tail.

IV - COLORS

BLACK RIM SILVER

Plumage in general: silver white background color with each pen regularly and uniformly edged with bright black. Primary remigers admitted hemmed only in the tip. Duvet: dark gray.
Serious defects:
in both sexes - yellowish background color; crescent-shaped edging; absence of drawing in the upper part of the chest, throat and shoulders; visible peppering; absence of green reflections; incomplete or absent drawing.
WHITE HEM SUEDE
ROOSTER AND HEN
Plumage In general: suede background color in the leather shade with each pen regularly and uniformly edged with creamy white. In the cock the background color is generally darker: golden reddish yellow. Duvet: cream.
Serious defects:
in both sexes - crescent-shaped hem; absence of drawing in the upper part of the chest, throat and shoulders; visible peppering; incomplete or absent drawing; white in the remiges and helmsman.
BLACK EDMED LEMON

Plumage in general: lemon yellow background color with each pen regularly and uniformly edged with bright black. Down jacket: blue gray.
Serious defects:
in both sexes - whitish or fawn background color; crescent-shaped edging; absence of drawing in the upper part of the chest, throat and shoulders; visible peppering; absence of green reflections; incomplete or absent drawing.
BLACK RIM GOLD

Plumage in general: deep golden brown background color with each feather regularly and uniformly edged with bright black. Duvet: brown gray.
Serious defects:
in both sexes - background color too light; spine too light; crescent-shaped edging; absence of drawing in the upper part of the chest, throat and shoulders; visible peppering; absence of green reflections; incomplete or absent drawing.
